Reflections on being a Master of Wine student
In 2013 I completed the WSET Diploma and won the Club Paten Prize. But I knew I wanted to go into great depth in my wine studies so I enrolled on the IMW’s Master of Wine programme and was accepted as a student for the new year beginning October 2013. I have written a number of reflections on being a Master of Wine (MW) student, a remarkable experience.First of all, here are the successful prize essays I submitted. These prizes are sponsored by the wine companies named below and are open to all MW students. The prize is typically an expenses-paid visit to the region:
- Reh-Kendermann prize essay: Developing German wine exports
- AXA Millésimes prize essay: The development of Douro table wines
- Graves essay prize: Repositioning Graves
- Family of XII prize essay: New Zealand’s next steps
- My report on visiting New Zealand and the Family of XII: Happy Families
And here are my reflections on being an MW student:
- Final week before the MW Practical (tasting) exams, 2016
- Things that can go wrong … in the MW Practical exam, 2016
- Microbes to market: the IMW Symposium, Logroño
- Post-MW exam distress disorder, 2018
- Helping MW students to improve their tasting skills, 2019
- (Final?) reflections of an MW student, 2019
And, finally, here are the pages on the two IMW Symposia I attended in Florence (2014) and Logrõno (2018):
