This week has been Chardonnay week in our household with tastings on consecutive nights of 3-4 samples. Interestingly the ’round the world’ flights have proved easier than the Burgundian ones. Most challenging was Grand Cru Chablis v Premier Cru Chablis v Chablis v cool climate Australia: I would have believed you if you had said they were all from Chablis! Equally challenging was tasting a good Bourgogne Blanc and a village wine (good but not great example). It was clear which was the best wine but I went for Premier Cru and village, not village and generic, so my scales were wrong. But all in all this was a great exercise and hopefully I have learnt something.
